The Torxen #89 RENNtech Motorsports AMG GT4 scores a P1 and P2 in the Pirelli World Challenge America PRO-AM Sprint X East -class at Road America. Qualifying for Pole Position and P2 on Saturday, Team RENNtech Motorsports, Guy Cosmo and Patrick Byrne delivered top speed and top-notch race performances at Road America.
“The Team and Drivers performed excellent. I am pleased to see how quickly Patrick and Guy adapted to driving the Torxen #89 RENNtech AMG GT4, and with the speed we had throughout the weekend. A special thanks go out to our Sponsor Torxen and to William Byrne for the continued support and believing in the RT Motorsports program. Without it, a result like this would not have been possible. A huge thank you to the Team led by Crew-Chief Alex Zaric and Engineer John Shapiro, who delivered arguably the fastest car to the race track on a weekend marked by complex weather conditions.” Said Hartmut Feyhl, owner of RENNtech Motorsports.
Byrne started Saturday’s race from P2, but the treacherous conditions led to the race officials calling a mandatory tire change for the entire field, and a restart of the race. After Start #2, and several laps under yellow flags for the first half of the race, Byrne delivered the Torxen #89 RENNtech AMG GT4 to Cosmo in P5 for a driver change. After a record setting pit stop, within 1/10th of a second of allowed time, Cosmo returned to track in P4 chasing down the lead and finishing the race P2 overall, and P1 in Class.
RENNtech Motorsports Team continued their strong run on Sunday in equally rainy and wet conditions. Starting from Pole Position, Cos-mo led the first half of the race and was able to grow the lead to over 10 seconds before the driver change with Byrne. With 25 minutes left in the race, Byrne took the wheel of Torxen #89 AMG GT4 for the final part of the race, and in an incredible drag-race to the checkered flag Byrne finished P2 in Class with a margin of only 0.023 seconds for P2 overall.
“We wanted to be here with RENNtech and the Mercedes-AMG GT4, and it proved to be a working formula. The conditions on track were tricky, but we kept finding more and more speed throughout the weekend. Now our sights are set for more podiums in Las Vegas.”
Said Patrick Byrne.
From Road America, WI, the Team heads toward Las Vegas, NV, for the final race of the 2019 Pirelli World Challenge America Sprint X season, October 18 – 20th.
