The HSR Prototype Challenge presented by IMSA hosted Round 2 of the championship last weekend at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta for the 46th running of The Mitty - one of HSR’s flagship events!
We had a great weekend with tons of track time in both the HSR PC class and also in Group 6, where we ran Bob’s Riley BMW Daytona Prototype.
Bob had a great weekend and drove really well - his first time at Road Atlanta - while I got some quality track time as well, in several of the team cars at Hudson Historics, to help set them up and get data & video for everyone.
Bob may have had a bit too much fun, however, after an intense day of practice, qualifying sessions, a sprint race and a full 1-hour enduro in the Daytona Prototype. When time came to take the green flag in the HSR PC race in our Ligier JS P320 LMP3 he quickly wasn’t feeling too good. 15 minutes in he pitted and I hopped in to take over, hoping he’d have enough down-time to recover and get back in to meet his minimum drive time of 45 minutes. During my run I charged from 10th to 2nd place and had a blast in the process. These cars really are just so much fun to drive. Bob returned to the cockpit and powered through to finish the race, only losing 2 positions in the final few laps - a pretty impressive run for a guy that wasn’t feeling so hot!
We’ll take our points and focus on the next round at Watkins Glen International, June 7-9, the next HSR weekend!
