Guy Cosmo and Gilbert Korthoff Motorsports have parted ways effective immediately, leaving Cosmo without a ride for this weekend’s IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season-opening Rolex 24 at Daytona.
Cosmo, who was announced as a full-season driver in the team’s Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo, joined forces with Mike Skeen for a fifth place GTD class finish in Sunday’s qualifying race.
“In an unexpected turn of events I have just been notified that I will not race for Gilbert/Korthoff’s GTD program, effective immediately,” Cosmo wrote on social media.
“I will not be participating in the Rolex 24 with them nor continuing with the team in any capacity.
“Good luck and safe racing/spectating to all of you this week. And if anyone needs a driver at the last minute, I am more than ready to go.”
Team co-owner Henry Gilbert has yet to reply to Sportscar365’s inquiry on the reasons behind the last-minute change.
Cosmo, who played an instrumental part in bringing the team into WeatherTech Championship competition last year, was due to share the No. 32 Mercedes with Skeen, Stevan McAleer snd Scott Andrews.
Sportscar365 understands that a replacement driver for this weekend’s Rolex 24 has been sourced although not yet officially announced by the team.
