The #Sebring12 Hour. An icon in motorsports history and still one of the greatest races in the world.
Oddly enough, in my 21 years as a professional sportscar racer I’ve only competed in the Sebring 12 Hour 8 times. It’s one of my favorite races, and certainly one of my favorite race tracks.
My first opportunity came in 2003, the year after I won the last of my open-wheel championships and saw no chance of making my way to IndyCars as a driver with no funding behind me.
Despite my 8 attempts in the big race I was still there, almost every single year since 2003. In the 2000’s when Grand-Am and the American Le Mans Series were two separate series, I often raced in Grand-Am (which didn’t run at Sebring) or raced in the production car support series as my full-time gig.
My last run in the 12 Hour came in November of 2020, just after the pandemic shut down when IMSA and Sebring decided to run the event later rather than never that year. That was my best finish, taking 3rd in LMP2!
Just last weekend I raced a modern prototype into the darkness at Sebring and it reminded me just how much my desire to compete at the top level of sportscar racing is STILL stronger than ever.
Putting the pieces together is never easy, but I vow that the first podium finish I earned in 2020 will definitely not be my last.
Here’s a list (and images) of all the cars I raced in the famed event.
