Extreme Speed Motorsports and I just wrapped up a very successful two-day test at one of North America's greatest race tracks - VIRginia International Raceway. It was a much needed test that helped us gain a better understanding of exactly what these Honda Racing HPD P2 machines need to go FAST - and FAST is an understatement...
Driving this sleek, sexy Tequila Patrón rocket ship around one of my favorite tracks was an incredible experience! It handled the tight, twisty sections with a smooth and controlled manner, quickly putting the power down and accelerating (rapidly), sailing down the long straights. It also turned the high-speed, uphill 'esses' into an effortless zig-zag as we blasted through them flat-out, in 6th gear, accelerating all the way through. It was blindingly fast through turn 10's top-of-hill left hander (6th gear), the most controlled car I've ever driven through the Oak Tree hairpin, and allowed me to brake deeper than all the brake markers at the end of the back straight - even past the turn-in marker!! It's as though the car was made for this track, and I liked it!
The race is going to be insane in this car, zipping past traffic for 4 hours. I can't wait.
