Guy Cosmo Makes a Last Lap Grab of the GT Pole for the 15th Annual Petit Le Mans

While teammate Tony Vilander was in pit lane enjoying the start of a pole winning celebration, Guy Cosmo peddled the No. 02 Ultimat Vodka Extreme Speed Motorsport Ferrari across the line with a 1:18.677 second lap to take the top spot in GT qualifying. Vilander will start second, just 0.05 seconds behind.

This is Cosmo's first GT pole in ALMS and a first 1-2 qualifying for Extreme Speed Motorsports.

The recently married Cosmo credited his speed to his wife Louisa and his new life-status noting, "I always said I'd be faster once I was married."

Guy Cosmo Ready For Battle At 15th Running Of Petit Le Mans Powered By Mazda

After nearly a five week break, Guy Cosmo and the Extreme Speed Motorsports Tequila Patrón Ferraris return to action at historic Road Atlanta in Braselton, Georgia for the season finale, the American Le Mans Series presented by Patrón 15th Annual Petit Le Mans Powered by Mazda.

While things may have been quiet on track, Cosmo has been keeping himself busy off-track. Since VIR, Guy has been coaching for Extreme Speed Motorsports' Ferrari Challenge drivers and changing his bachelor status to married.

"It's been busy," laughed Guy. "In the past month, we completed our wedding plans, had the wedding and enjoyed a honeymoon. It's been great. I couldn't be happier."

"That said," added Guy, "it's great to be back at the track and driving the No. 02 ESM Patrón Ferrari 452 Italia. I love driving these cars and I'm excited to finish out the year with a great result."

Guy Cosmo Showcases Ferrari And Driving Talent At Virginia International Raceway For American Le Mans Presented By Patrón VIR 240

Excited to hit the wide open circuit at Virginia International Raceway with his Extreme Speed Motorsports Patrón Ferrari 458 GT, Guy Cosmo had this to say going into the American Le Mans Series present by Tequila Patrón, Cosmo had this to say about the track.

"VIR is a true road racers dream and one of the absolute best circuits to drive, ever," said Cosmo. "It's a very unique blend providing a driver everything he could ask for. The track has a great flow and a variety of challenges. You see some very technical slow and medium speed sections, two very long straights, killer braking and passing zones, and a few death-defying high speed sections that will have you holding your breath on every approach… and that will make you cry for your mamma if you get them wrong."

Guy Cosmo - Baltimore Sports Car Challenge Presented By SRT Wrap Up

When the green flag dropped on the American Le Mans Series presented by Patrón Baltimore Sports Car Challenge, the field was immediately thrown into a full course yellow due to a front running P1 car making contact with the turn one wall and blocking the track. As drivers attempted to unravel themselves from the traffic jam race positions were quickly thrown into a disarray. Ed Brown, driving the No. 02 Extreme Speed Motorsports Patrón Ferrari, though unaffected by the incident, spent the majority of his stint under the caution.

“I feel bad that Ed only drove a single lap under green," said Cosmo. "I got in 15 minutes into the race. With a two hour race, it was what we needed to do for the strategy."

The street race was as predicted - a street fight. Never really establishing a race-tempo, gaining any sort of track position required a wheel-to-wheel battle. Contact with another GT competitor did damage to the right side of the car and caused a flat tire. Cosmo was forced to pit after the incident. The stop took the team from 7th place to an 11th place finish.

Guy Cosmo Perseveres Peddles, Pain And Paddles At Road America

Heading to Elkhart Lake, Wisc. for the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón Road Race Showcase, Guy Cosmo had no idea how hard he'd be tested. Tackling the longest track on the ALMS schedule, by bike and by car via the No. 02 Patrón Ferrari GT458, Cosmo demonstrated his top flight skills and his no-quit spirit.

After completing the annual Tour de Road America which takes place each year in August during the American Le Mans Series race weekend at Road America, Cosmo injured his back. This forced the team to add Anthony Lazzaro to their driver roster. Even though Lazzaro was only on standby, rules dictate his addition mandates that the car start at the back of the field.

Opening Lap Traffic Spoils Cosmo's Day At Mid-Ohio Sports Car Challenge

After posting a team high P2 qualifying time, Guy Cosmo found his No. 02 Extreme Speed Motorsports Patrón Ferrari 458GT stuck in a traffic jam during the opening laps of the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón and the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Challenge. It would be the beginning of a long afternoon that saw Cosmo and co-driver Ed Brown finishing in 8th.

In Friday's qualifying, Guy literally tore the track up. Cosmo scored the team’s best qualifying position of the 2012 season, putting the No. 02 Tequila Patrón Ferrari on the GT outside front row.

Cosmo Looking Back To The Future For Win At Mid-Ohio

Returning to the site of his first American Le Mans Series win, Guy Cosmo is pinning his hopes on returning to the podium at Mid-Ohio when the Extreme Speed Motorsports team heads to Lexington, Ohio for the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón Mid-Ohio Sports Car Challenge. With last week's Mobil 1 Grand Prix of Mosport win in their back pocket, the team has high expectations for the No. 01 and 02 Patrón Ferrari GT458's in this Saturday's race.

"I'm really thrilled with and proud of the team's progress this season," noted Guy.  "We've been very competitive with strong performances from both cars. We've even squeaked out a win with the 01 team at the last race.  We've got the momentum.  I hope that momentum builds and winds up like a steam-roller flattening everything in it's path."

While the 02 car has generated lots of on-track excitement and shown speeds and lap times capable of winning, Cosmo and co-driver Ed Brown have not yet put it all together to take a spot on the podium. None-the-less, their confidence and team preparation continue to pose a threat.

"For the 02 car," continued Cosmo, "Ed and I need to take the best aspects of our performances this season and pull them all together for a good result.  In the last two races, we've started strong, charged through the pack, led in dominant fashion, but in the end, either had bad luck or just plain got it wrong.  We are on the verge of a great finish together, and we are pushing for that this weekend."

A popular circuit among drivers, the legendary Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course is a natural terrain road-racing circuit featuring 13-turns and several elevations changes over 2.25 miles. The track has tested the courage of some of the world's top drivers for more than 40 years.

"I've got fond memories of this place," added Guy. When I first started racing, I raced there so many times to get prepared for the SCCA National Run-offs, which took place at that track.  I think my father and I practically lived in Ohio in 1997 in efforts to race in everything that they had there under the sun. I’ve won more races at that track than anywhere else I’ve been… including my first win in the American Le Mans Series back in 2005 in LMP2… but I haven’t won there since."

“A good lap around Mid-Ohio is like playing a game of chess," said Guy. "You have to strategize your way around that course, not just drive your way around.  Placement is really important.  It is very slippery and you really have to think ahead because it is such a twisty and tight course that if you mess up one corner, you’re going to mess up two more corners after it.  You really need to plan ahead."

The Mid-Ohio Sports Car Challenge at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course is a two-day event.  The team will take to the track for two practice sessions on Friday, August 3, followed by qualifying at 1:55 p.m. (ET).  Green flag for the race is on Saturday, August 4, at 1:05 p.m. (ET).

Guy Cosmo, 2005 American Le Mans Series Rookie of the Year drives the No. 02 Extreme Speed Motorsports Patrón Ferrari. Cosmo is a race record-holder at Mid-Ohio (for fastest lap in the GTC series, which he set in 2009 in the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup). Cosmo has 38 starts in the American Le Mans Series, finishing in the top-five 18 times and has been on the winner’s podium twice. In addition to being an accomplished driver, Cosmo is also a highly sought-after driving instructor. You can find out more about Guy Cosmo at http://www.guycosmo.com or follow Guy through the racing weekend on Twitter @guycosmo and on Facebook.

The American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón is the world`s leading sports car championship and is recognized as the Global Leader in Green Racing. In the tradition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, multiple classes of cars - purpose-built prototypes and production-based Grand Touring automobiles - race on the track at the same time to create compelling race action and constant passing. All cars in the Series compete using one of five approved alternative fuels or energy sources: clean sulfur-free diesel, cellulosic E85 or E10, Isobutanol and electric hybrid technologies. The Series has more automobile marques involved than any other major race series in the world as manufacturers develop relevant technologies on track that transfer directly to the customer showroom. The ALMS competes at North America`s premier road racing tracks and selected temporary street circuits in major urban markets.
